Prometheus was founded in the summer of 2018. It was a fusion of the literary magazine Simile (known today as Writers Ablaze) and the Creative Writing Group of Ghent University.
To achieve our goal we organise weekly activities. Every two weeks this takes the form of Scribbles, wherin we write together around a theme. In other weeks we do social activities, such as quizzes, board game nights, arts & crafts or an infodump night.
Our coat of arms consists of our official colours: silver and bordeaux.
In the top right corner is a typewriter and the bottom left a goose quill, both indicate we are a writing society.
In the top left corner is a diamond pattern. This is a reference to our first presidium, that consisted of exclusively women. Historically a diamond was used for a women's coat of arms isntead of a shield sometimes.
In the bottom right corner is a cross. This refers to the flag of England, because we are an ENglish speaking society.
The coat of arms was designed by Nicolas Rulkin.
Our slogan 'Kindle your creative fire' is a reference to the myth of Prometheus, the titan who stole fire from the gods to gift it to mankind.
This is also why the goose quill in our logo and coat of arms somewhat resembles a flame.
